Silent Companion

I wanted to create a physical object that could offer reassurance without being clinical, instructional or demanding.

The challenge was to make slowing down feel physical — using touch, movement and material rather than relying on words alone.

The Silent Companion began as a small tactile zine and developed into a wider experience built around receiving, reflecting and passing something on.

I used embossing, die-cutting and translucent layers to make the pages something to experience rather than simply read. A repeated leaf image changes through the publication — pressed into paper, cut away, revealed through shadow and gradually becoming complete.

The physical journey extends beyond the zine: Campaign → QR code → landing page → subscription → package → zine → reflection → letter → anonymous exchange → return.

After interacting with the zine, the user is given space to reflect and write. A coloured seal allows emotions to remain private while still becoming part of the system. The letter can then be anonymously exchanged, turning an individual moment of reflection into a connection with someone else.
