Earthly Practices

The Challenge

Demystifying Academic Research

Earthly Practices gave me an open-ended brief with very little visual direction. Rather than designing around an existing identity, I had to establish what the practice could look and feel like through research and concept development.

The challenge was to create something credible and considered while still bringing a sense of warmth and approachable personality to a research-led university context.

The Concept & Modular Forms

Interconnection as a Living System

I developed the identity around the idea of connection — between people, research and the environments they inhabit.

This led me towards a modular visual system, where individual forms could come together and change depending on how they were arranged. Rather than relying on a static symbol, the forms can be combined and rearranged into diverse configurations across applications.

Motion & System Expansion

An Identity in Motion

The modular approach extends beyond the logo into the wider identity, creating opportunities for patterns, compositions and kinetic movement.

I developed the identity through motion, experimenting with how the modular forms could move, connect and reorganise — showing the identity as a living ecological organism rather than a fixed corporate logo.
